Keith Schoenthal was a member of Pack 123 in Roseland (Santa Rosa, CA) when he was growing up, attaining the Webelos Rank (now the Arrow of Light as there was Lion before Webelos instead of Webelos and Webelos II) with his dad as the Cubmaster. He later became a member of the Troop in Guerneville, where he only made it to Second Class. As a High Schooler Keith was again involved in Scouting as a member of the Twin Hills (now Gold Ridge) Fire Explorer Post.

As an adult Keith went through the Cub program with his son, Chris (Eagle Scout, Order of the Arrow Section Chief), as the Cubmaster of Pack 4 in Cotati. When it was time for Chris to bridge over to the Troop Keith choose not to go along. After Chris was an adult leader he asked his dad to come to Troop 4, in Cotati, as Scoutmaster. In March 2002 Keith became Scoutmaster of Troop 4. Because he had previously been a Cubmaster Keith immediately jumped in and was an Owl in Woodbadge WE3-35-02.

Keith has been involved in many areas of Scouting both within and outside of his home, Redwood Empire, Council. He has twice (2005 and the Centennial 2010) lead REC Contingent Troops to the National Jamboree as Scoutmaster. In 2013 Keith will be staffing the Jamboree at the new Summit location with his daughter, Linnet, (another Boy Scout – a Venture Crew adult member from the New Birth of Freedom Council) in the Scouting with disAbilities Challenge. Keith has also been actively involved in delivering National Youth Leadership Training to the youth of not only the Redwood Empire Council, but Marin and several others as well. He has twice served as Scoutmaster / Course Director.

Keith has been presented with the District Award of Merit by the Miwok District of the Redwood Empire Council and the Silver Beaver by the Council. Keith has been honored by the Order of the Arrow ORCA Lodge with the Order’s Founder’s Award, the Lodge Silver Fluke award, a James E West endowment contribution, and finally with the OA’s Vigil Honor in December 2008.

Previous to being asked to serve as an Associate Adviser for the Section Keith served as the Cabrosha Chapter Adviser for the ORCA Lodge prior to the downsizing of the Lodge. In addition to his recent appointment as Associate Adviser Keith was also appointed as District Chairman for the Miwok District.
