2009 was Section W3N’s first, and it was a very successful one. Working under the leadership of a visionary Section Chief, Jake Knudsen, our COC planned and executed a Conclave that many consider to have been “The Best in the West.” We were privileged to have in attendance our National Chief, National Vice Chief, Western Region Chief, and other Western Region Section Chiefs. More than 350 Arrowmen were well-rewarded with a fun weekend loaded with training, scuba, many activities, and good shows. This year laid the foundation for building an even better section in the future. I offer my heart-felt thanks to all the members of the COC and their advisers for this success.
2010 will be a very busy year in Scouting, and Section W3N will be in the middle of it all. With the leadership of our Section Chief, Ben LeRoy, the section will offer:
- Train-The-Trainer. Those who attend will learn how to better lead training events in their Lodges and Chapters, and will develop skills that will last them a lifetime.
- NorCal Jamboree. Section W3N will support this 100th Anniversary event by sponsoring, in cooperation with Section W3S, the Native American Village, with tipis, dancing, crafts, foods and other interesting demonstrations honoring our Native American traditions.
- Conclave. The COC has begun detailed planning for our second Section W3N Conclave, and we expect it to be another “Best in the West” event in the beautiful redwood forests at Camp Masonite Navarro in Mendocino County. We’ll have a lot of fun with our theme: Allowat and the Order of the Phoenix.
As Section Adviser, I have the great privilege of supporting our Section Chief and other members of our COC. Our success would not be possible without the enthusiastic work of all our other adult advisers who support their CVCs and the section in planning and executing their areas of responsibility. Thanks to all of you.
